5 Secrets of the Highest Converting Websites

Having a strong online presence is important.  It helps businesses, big and small, engage with clients and stay current.  But all that time spent creating social media accounts, building your SEO, and constructing a website and store can be for nothing if you don’t actually make any money. The idea of building a website and making money off it is so blasé (anyone can do it, right?).

In the biz of marketing, we have a term for companies and sites that do just that—you know, the ones that turn Facebook post or tweets into cash. It would make sense to call the Rumpelstiltskins because they spin nothing into gold.  But here at Inboun, we don’t call them that.  Instead, we refer to them as high converting websites or “HCW” for short.

One of the simplest things HCWs do is utilize their Facebook landing page to the fullest.

Say HCW1’s goal is to build their Facebook following. So they create a Facebook landing page that when clicked from their website or wherever else, it goes to a roadblock-like page that requires you to “Like” the page to continue on. Users tend to have no problem doing this especially if they have an incentive to do so (like special deals and promo codes that can be used back on their website).

So what else do HCWs do? After the jump you’ll find 5 things they do to keep converting:

Facebook Introduces Graph Search… What The...?

It seems as if every time Facebook decide to makes and update or a change, the entire online population freaks out.  But before you start to hyperventilate from Facebook’s new Graph Search feature, stop, breath and allow Inboun to explain.

On Tuesday, January 15, 2013, Mr. Zuckerberg himself introduced the world to Facebook’s newest breakthrough technology dubbed “Graph Search”. In short, Graph Search is a major advancement of Facebook’s current search which combs through the massive amounts of data (user interests, relationship status, pictures, mutual friends, etc.) of Facebook users to bestow better search results.

Graph Search is much different than a general web search you’d perform on Google or Facebook’s new web search partner, Bing.  The difference between the two breaks down like this:

  • A web search rakes through the entire internet based on your search query and displays results in the form of other web links
  • When you input a query in Graph Search, it filters through the data of your friends and displays results in the form of people, places, or interest
  • It should also be noted that the queries you input into Graph Search are different (much more intuitive based)

Breaking News? The Internet’s Not What It Seems

Sad news came today about “the Internet”, as it was revealed that the perceived wholesome haven, which billions around the world have lauded over for years, has been deemed to be infected with dubious scams. Some scams even perpetrated with no clear goal other than some guy on Facebook serving his own self vanity.

The news broke when the Supreme Court issued the statement that “not everything on the Internet is true.”  The ruling came after weeks of deliberation on the validity of a post from Facebook User Nolan Daniels, the infamous lottery ticket hoaxer.  Daniels’s post, depicted himself holding up what appears to be a lottery ticket with the winning numbers printed on it. The post went viral because Daniels had claimed to hold a ticket worth millions and millions of dollars. He then posted that one lucky person, who had “Liked” and/or “Shared” his post would be granted $1 million from his pending fortune.

Internet trolls nearly had a victory in the bag. A quote from Justice Samuel Alito explains how the deliberations went.

The End of the World Arrived a Bit Early: Instagram's New Terms of Service

"The End of the World" seemed to arrive a bit earlier than predicted.  Instead of ending on December 21 like the Mayan calandar apparently predicts, social media users everywhere proclaimed that it was indeed the end of the world on Monday, December 17, 2012 when Instagram posted its new terms of use

As soon as the social media picture-sharing giant released its brand new terms of use (you know, the one that proclaims that any photo could be used in an advertisement without permission?), the social media world seemed to freeze.  Celebrities began deleting Instagram accounts.  Instagram-aholics began protesting via Twitter and, quite appropriately, via Facebook.  And users everywhere began deleting their most beloved, prized and perhaps "personal" Instagram pictures.

The celebrities that were most upset with the changes?  Olivia Wilde, Anderson Cooper and even the beloved Tiffani Amber Thiessen (Saved By The Bell's "Kelly Kapowski") expressed their outrage.

So how is Instagram responding to the public outrage?  Actually, they aren't doing too shabby of a job.
